Insurance

WIL studentsLa Trobe University annually renews an insurance policy which covers students who are on unpaid placements. Please see below for further details.

The Insurance Policies to Protect Students [PDF 16KB] document will explain what kind of insurance coverage is provided for student undertaking unpaid placements.

Students who are paid for WIL activities are not covered under the university insurance policy. In this instance you will need to ensure that the organisation you are working with has insurance that will cover you while on placement.

Please note there are particular insurance forms that should be used, dependant on the placement arrangement. Your Unit or WIL Coordinator will advise you of the appropriate paperwork for your placement.

Students who are undertaking their own independent work experience outside of course requirements can still be covered under La Trobe's insurance. Complete the Students on Work placement form [DOC 39KB] and return to the Careers & Employment department as instructed on the form.

This form may be used for both unpaid placement as part of studies and unpaid placements that are not part of your studies. However, please note that even placements undertaken outside your course must still have some relevance to your discipline area for the universities insurance to cover you.
