Accounting work placement
The accounting work placement program provides opportunities for second and third year accounting students to extend their formal academic learning at LaTrobe University beyond the classroom.
It allows students to apply the knowledge gained at university to the work place and test the breadth of their understanding. It brings together the expertise of industry partners and La Trobe University staff for the benefit of students’ professional development.

This subject aims to
- Provide an opportunity for students to carry out meaningful and structured projects and gain practical work experience
- Challenge students to apply and extend the core skills and knowledge they have learned to solve authentic problems in an accounting or business context
- Allow students to apply knowledge and ideas towards the solution of specific organisational problems or projects
- Enhance the academic program by bridging the gap between theory and practice
Subject Features
- Summer Semester
- Industry placement – academic credit
- Hours may vary depending on organisation (minimum 90 hours)
- Work undertaken – project or operationally based
Academic component
- 2 x 4 hour seminars – job application preparation (assessment centres, psychometric testing, behavioural interviewing) and pre placement preparation (business etiquette, business communications)
- Assessment – Placement Report, Presentation, Reflective Report

Placements
- Placements associated with work placement subjects are generally unpaid
- Hours spent in the workplace are flexible, however must be at least 90 hours
- Students completing structured Vacation Work programs are encouraged to enrol in the subject to receive academic credit
