La Trobe University acknowledges that many students may experience financial difficulties at some time. There are a range of services and supports that may assist students experiencing financial hardship.

Travel bursaries for regional students on low income

Travel Bursaries are available for regional and remote area students who are eligible for a Centrelink Health Care Card and who are required to attend compulsory seminars and workshops at the Melbourne Campus.

Dental equipment grants

In 2013 the Equality and Diversity Centre has four Dental Equipment Grants available for disadvantaged students in the Bachelor of Oral Health Science and the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Dentistry/Master of Dentistry.

Purchasing Books


Second hand books are available for purchase through the Student Union and available to students on all campuses. To buy or sell second hand books, please visit the La Trobe Student Union Online Book Store.

If you are unable to purchase your books at the moment, they may be available through the Library.

Bond Loan Scheme


The Department of Human Services has a Bond Loan Scheme you can use to pay your rental bond. 

 
Utility Relief Grant


Students experiencing difficulties in paying their utility bills may benefit from the Utility Relief Grant.  

Concession Cards for Public Transport

 
Eligible students may also benefit from gaining a Victorian Public Transport Concession Card. Application forms are available at your Student Administration office or the Hub on Bundoora Campus.

Health Care Cards


Students may be eligible for a Health Care Card, even if they are not entitled to other Centrelink benefits.  Health Care Cards may provide a range of benefits, including discounts on some utility bills.

Student Start-Up Scholarship

Student Start-Up Scholarships are available through Centrelink for full-time students who are studying an approved course and receiving Youth Allowance, Austudy or ABSTUDY.
