Discrimination and harassment of people on the basis of irrelevant characteristics is unacceptable at La Trobe.
If you are a student or staff member and believe you have experienced some form of harassment or discrimination, there are a number of options and supports available to you.
About harassment and discrimination
In the arena of employment and education, it is unlawful to discriminate against a person on the basis of any of the following personal characteristics:
- Age
- Breastfeeding
- Disability/Impairment
- Gender identity
- Industrial activity
- Lawful sexual activity
- Marital Status
- Parental or carer status
- Personal association with someone with one of these characteristics
- Physical appearance
- Political belief or activity
- Employment activity
- Pregnancy
- Race, nationality or ethnic origin
- Religious belief or activity
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
Sexual harassment is also unlawful in Australia. See the University's Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Policy for further information.
Harassment and Discrimination Contact Officers provide a first point of contact and a confidentiality and impartiality sounding board and advice on Policy and Procedures.
