Develop my skills

Graduating with a degree is not enough to get you a professional job. Employers seek graduates with a range of non-technical skills and life experience.

Here are some ways for you to develop skills beyond the knowledge you are gaining at uni.

Work placement

Work experience provides a chance to add to the knowledge you develop while at University, gain insight into an occupation and industry, develop your professional and personal skills, and set you apart from other job candidates. Undertaking work experience relevant to your degree can provide you with both personal insight and a competitive edge.

Volunteering

Volunteering is an excellent way to gain experience and practical skills in your field of study, or in a field in which you are interested.

Leadership Programs

The Infinity Leadership Program and others are great ways for you to develop leadership skills whilst you are studying.

Join the career mentoring program

The Student Career Mentoring Program links students and recent graduates with qualified industry professionals, La Trobe staff and alumni for a career mentoring relationship. The program operates across all campuses.
