Computer Labs

There are four computer labs located on the ground floor of Building 4. Two labs are available to students for general access during opening hours. A timetable is displayed outside the labs showing the lab bookings for teaching. Lab 2 is a teaching lab only and is not available for general access.

Semester opening hours

Monday through Thursday: 9.00am to 9.00pm
Friday: 9.00am to 4.30pm

During semester breaks, opening arrangements will be posted on the notice board, as availability during these times will vary due to maintenance requirements.

Computer Accounts

Student accounts are generally created from student records information as of late February. To log on to the computer, enter the username and password which are printed on your Statement of Account form (passwords are case sensitive). STUDENTS is the Domain you log on to.

If you did not receive a Statement of Account you will need to contact Student Administration to sort out your enrolment.

Help

The Studyhall at Bundoora can help with passwords or for help with configuration problems relating to a number of La Trobe IT systems such as LMS (formerly WebCT), StudentOnline, Email, Oasis, and Sophos Anti-Virus. They can be contacted on 1300 786 535 or by using the free security phone outside the labs. The Studyhall has extended opening hours during semester.

For printing or computer hardware problems you can contact ICT (Albury-Wodonga) Monday through Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm, by dialling 9757 on the security phone outside the labs.

During the semester, there is also a lab supervisor on duty at the desk in the print room between 5.00pm and 9.00pm Monday to Thursdays.

ICT (Albury-Wodonga) will keep the Labs operational and maintain computer system access, but do not provide instruction.

Rules and Regulations

Access to University computing facilities is for purposes relating to courses offered. The Rules and Regulations are for the protection of other's rights, and the equal sharing of available resources. There are penalties for breaching the rules which can range from temporary suspension of computer access privileges to the laying of criminal charges for malicious damage. All computer access is logged and can be traced, and the labs are under 24 hour surveillance.

File Storage

When your account is created you are automatically allocated file storage on the server (your Z: drive). You can also save files to a USB storage device. Don't try to save files anywhere else. They will be lost.

Your lecturer may place notes or files on the P: (public drive) for you to download. You will be able to read and save these files down to your Z: drive or removal storage device.

There is no security of data. It is your responsibility to make backups. Accounts will be deleted for any non continuing students. Therefore at the end of your course of study, you may wish to download your files to take with you.

Printing

The print room is located between the computer labs on the ground floor, building 4. The cost of printing an A4 page on the mono laser printer is 12 cents per page, full colour is 50 cents per page. Printing is paid for using La Trobe's Transact print and copy charging system. The Library has facilities and instructions on how to register your NEW student card to your Transact account. Credit can be added to your card by loading/reloading cash to your account using the Cash reload station in the Library. Your card can then be used for printing in the labs, and printing and photocopying in the Library.

Email

An email account is automatically generated when your computer account is created. The email system is web-based and can be accessed on or off campus. The email address for students is:

...username@students.latrobe.edu.au

It is recommended that you regularly clean out your email folders and your Z: drive, as there is a restriction on your file space.
