Working with Wikis
What is a Wiki?
A wiki is a collaborative webpage which allows participants to collaborate on writing, by each
person in the group writing and editing in a single online document. The Wiki module
enables the class or sub-groups as identified by the lecturer to work together on web pages
to add, expand and change the content. The lecturer may use a wiki for group projects,
brainstorming, group lecture notes.
How do I access a Wiki?

How do I create a Wiki Page?
A key principle in the creation of Wiki pages is that pages on a wiki should be linked together in some way. In order to link the pages together, you have to create a link to the new page before you can create the new page itself.
Creating a link to the new page
- Think of a title for your page. The title should be different to the titles of other pages on the wiki. It should describe the content of your page.
- Decide which page should link to your new page. If the wiki is small this might be the first or start page. Otherwise, find an appropriate page.
- Click on the Edit tab to edit
the page that will contain the
link.

- When editing a page, links are
created by typing the title of a
page you want to link to inside
double square brackets. Find
the point on the page where
you would like the link to go,
and type it in, in this example
[[OCM Business Benefit
Statements]].

- Click on the Save button.
Creating a new page
- The link you have created should appear on the first page, ready for use.

- To create a page, click the link.
- The create page page will be displayed.
Select the format (for example HTML) and
click Create page.

- The edit window is now displayed for your new page.
- Type in the initial text of your page in
the text entry area. Apply any
formatting (headings in bold for
example) using using the HTML
editor) and then click on the Save button.
