Working with the Blog Block
What is a Blog?
Blogs are a form of online journal that can be used for self expression and communication and are usually organised chronologically as a series of postings by the author. The word blog is a contraction of Web Blog.
If your subject has a Blog Menu you can use the menu to add a new entry and view all of your entries and/or add an entry and view all entries specific to a subject.
How do I add a new Blog entry?
- From the Blog menu, click on the Add a new entry link (or Add an entry about this
subject). - Complete the Entry title and Blog entry body fields.
- If you want to attach a file click the Add button to access the File picker and either upload a file or locate a recently used file.
- Select from the Publish to dropdown options who you wish to publish the entry to i.e. who may see the entry. There are two options: Anyone on this site or Yourself (draft).
- Select appropriate Official tags for your entry and/or add one or more user defined Other tags. If you add more then one, they should be comma separated.
- Click on the Save changes button.
Tags
When you create a Blog entry you have the option to assign a tag(s) to that entry.
A tag is a relevant keyword or
term associated with the blog
entry that allows other users to
find entries about a particular
topic.
Official tags are a list of
official tags recommended by
the system administrator or
lecturer. Other tags which
are user defined or personal
tags which any user can add.

How do I edit or delete a Blog entry?
- From the Blog menu, select the relevant link to either View all of my entries, View all entries for this subject or View my entries about this subject.
- Once the User blog is displayed (in chronological - date/time order) select the relevant link from the Edit | Delete | Permalink links displayed against each blog entry. For example you may choose to edit the body of the blog entry or the publish options to change the publishing from Yourself (Draft) to Anyone on this site. Note: If you select the Permalink link, this will isolate this specific blog entry. You can now copy the web address and send this to another user (who has access to the subject and blogs for this subject) so that they can access this blog entry.
- Once any changes are made click on Save changes.

Note: Blog preferences (for example how many blog entries are displayed per page) can be managed via settings available on My Profile.
