Your username and password are issued at enrolment and appear on your Statement of Account (sent to you in the mail). Note that if you change your password for any system at the University, this change will apply to all University systems.

For information regarding passwords and logging on got to the Loggin in help page.

Why can't I log in?

There could be many reasons but the most probable is you have simply forgotten your password, are trying the wrong one or are entering it incorrectly. Some other things to think about include:

  • Does your username or password contain a mixture of upper and lower case letters? It should be entered exactly
  • Check that your Caps Lock is turned off.
  • Check your Statement of Account to ensure that you are correctly enrolled in at least one subject.
  • Confirm your username and password. These are printed on your Statement of Account.
  • Confirm that your lecturer intends you to use this system. Not all subjects use the LMS. Even if you have used this system in the past, your lecturers this year may employ other mechanisms.

Refer to the Logging in help page for more assistance.

How do I change my password?

You can change your password at Reset Password - Staff and Student Active Directory Account. When you change your password you are changing your password for all La Trobe systems.

Should I log out of the LMS when I'm finished using it?

If you use a computer that is shared with others or in a public place like the Library or Computer Study Hall, it is important to close your browser window (ie Quit or Exit) when you have finished an online session. Otherwise, the next person using the same computer may be able to enter the subject logged in as you.

How do I navigate in the LMS?

The LMS (Moodle) provides navigation in the form of Breadcrumbs, Navigation Block, and the Jump to function.  In addition, you can use the back and forward navigation in your browser.

What's the best way to view/print files?

This will depend entirely on how your lecturer has formatted the documents. In some cases, opening documents will launch the application (Word, Excel) that you need in order to display them. In some cases, you may need a special 'Plug-In' to view documents.

It is always best to right-click on the link to the document. This will allow you to save the document to your own machine which will be quicker than waiting for them to display from the source. This will also make it faster to print and much more reliable.
