Mr Radek Pesina

Software Engineer

Course of study:
Bachelor of Engineering - Internet Telecommunications with Honours 2003

Has your degree at La Trobe prepared you well for the workplace?

The most important information is not necessarily specific content that you learn at University. You may find that when you start working you know little of what is applicable to your job. However, it is the engineering thought process and the ability to self-teach in an ever evolving industry, which was provided by studying at La Trobe, that makes it easy to rapidly adjust to any new role.

Since graduating, where have you worked?

2003-2007: Software Engineer at Continental VDO. I worked on projects including BMW motorcycle instrument clusters, Holden Rodeo Powertrain Interface Modules, Isuzu truck Powertrain Interface Modules and VW Climate Control. 2007-2008: Software Developer at PLAN Australia, working as a Web developer and temporarily as SQL dB Administrator in a mixture of Java, SQL and PHP. 2008-present: Began as Software Engineer, working on Ford Falcon/Territory Infotainment Command Centre (ICC). Currently Software Team Lead, finalising the development of Electronic Control Panel software integrating in the Ford Global ICC into the upcoming Ford Falcon/Territory facelift.

What are your career highlights to date?

Travelling overseas to places such as Germany, USA, Hungary for different projects, working on the FPV GT-F gauges.

What are do you most enjoy about your job?

enjoy driving a variety of different vehicles, including vehicles yet to be released; being able to sit in a vehicle and think to yourself "I did that".

Besides your career, where has life taken you since graduation?

I am happily married with a beautiful daughter. I have forever had shifting hobbies, but for the last few years building and driving my project car has kept me busy in my spare time.

What advice can you offer to current students?

Take risks sooner rather than later doing what you love – when you graduate you've got almost nothing to lose, and a lot more time available than later in life.
