Course of study:
Bachelor of Electronic Engineering (Honours) 2008

Has your degree at La Trobe prepared you well for the workplace?

The mindset that engineering teaches you is applicable in any business. The best thing I took away from the course was a strong analytical approach to problems, which will stay with me for a lifetime.

Tell us a little about your work history

My first real engineering job was an industry placement at Siemens VDO (now Continental). I met some amazing people during my time there that led to another opportunity working with a small start-up business specialising in audio gear. I then worked for a Programmable Logic Controller/Remote Terminal Unit company.

I currently work for NBN Co. as a supply analyst. My work involves the manipulation and analysis of large data sets, performing root cause analysis when issues are identified, and determining resolution actions when one of these problems falls within our group’s scope.

My career highlights have included my involvement in the development of a production line tester. It was a lot of fun building from the ground up and it really made me realise how important initial decisions can be. Another highlight was being sent to Belgium to train a new set of engineers. This was a lot of fun, especially tackling the language barrier.

What advice can you offer to current students?

Take advantage of the number of people you interact with while at University. Every friendship comes with opportunities.
