Career Development Centre
We are keen to work with teaching staff to complement academic programs and to help students achieve their career goals. We also provide opportunities for La Trobe staff to engage with and assist students through programs like Career Mentoring, Work Integrated Learning, and jobs on campus.
Careers education
We provide expertise in Career Development in a number of ways, including delivering career education programs; organising guest speakers to talk about specific careers; providing career development resources for you to use in lectures, tutorials or via the LMS.
Case studies
Employ students
Students are often well placed to perform a range of jobs on campus. We can help you advertise vacancies direct to students via CareerHub. There is no cost to use this service, and students are always keen to work on campus. You can lodge a vacancy on CareerHub by registering as an employer, or speak to Maggie Baring on T: 9479 2459.
Mentor a student
Become a mentor for our highly successful Student Career Mentoring Program. It is a great program to develop your skills as a mentor, and a fantastic experience for students to learn more about themselves and the world of work they are about to enter.
Work Placement Program
There are many reasons why you may give a student some voluntary work experience in your work area. There may be a project that you’ve wanted to undertake but haven’t been able to because of a shortage of resources or you may need additional support at a busy time. A student can spend up to 4 weeks (20 days) with your area and the work must be relevant to the discipline that they are studying. See details at our Work Placement Program wepage.
