Global Utilities

Only through its staff can La Trobe University achieve its mission to be internationally recognised as a major contributor in the scholarly discovery, preservation, transmission and application of knowledge.

The University Strategic Plan (PDF 3.1Mb) sets the direction for attracting, developing and retaining staff of high calibre. It affirms that the standing of any university rests with the quality of its staff and sets the key objective that by 2008 all staff will participate in at least one staff development and/or training program every two years.

The University acknowledges the talent and commitment of its workforce and will continue to nurture its staff not only through enhancements to the workplace environment but also through development opportunities as outlined in the Staff Development Charter.

In this context staff development has been broadly defined as "the process of acquiring or enhancing any skill or area of knowledge required in order to perform, satisfactorily, the task or set of tasks allocated by the University".

La Trobe's staff development vision is to create an innovative, responsive and inclusive staff development function that is influential in developing and building the skills of its staff, in shaping a work environment that facilitates maximum use of those skills, and in influencing a participative management culture that will make this happen.

With changes in the workplace comes the need to learn new ways of doing. This website can be a valuable resource to staff in their endeavour to keep learning.
