Disability advice and support

La Trobe University is committed to the enhancement of educational opportunities for people with disabilities or additional needs. The University strives to provide an environment that recognises and is responsive to the requirements of those with disabilities.

A wide range of support services are available to staff and students. The University employs a Disability Liaison/Equity Officer, whose role is to ensure that those with additional needs are able to participate fully and equally in all aspects of campus life, from academic to social.

Upon evaluation, the Disability Liaison/Equity Officer can provide information, support and resources in a range of areas, including:

  • Note takers, personal readers, scribes and personal care assistants;
  • Assistance with arrangements for alternative examination or assessment conditions and applications for special consideration;
  • Arrangements for course materials to be made available in an appropriate format (e.g. braille, audio-cassettes);
  • Loan of equipment such as ergonomic chairs, cassette recorders and learning assistance software;
  • Information and support regarding complaints of disability discrimination;
  • Information and support regarding day-to-day university life;
  • Information regarding scholarships and awards applicable to students with disabilities/additional needs;
  • Information regarding sources of referral, both internal and external to the University.
