Brief Profile

Dr Patsie Frawley has a national profile for her research and policy advocacy work in intellectual disability. Her research focus is on self advocacy, inclusive research, sexuality and relationships and policy participation by people with an intellectual disability. She completed her PhD in the School of Social Work and Social Policy at LaTrobe University with a DHS Disability Services Scholarship. Her thesis was a qualitative study of the participatory experiences of people with an intellectual disability on government disability advisory bodies. Her current and recent research is on violence and abuse prevention programs for people with an intellectual disability, the history of self advocacy and participation of people with an intellectual disability in self directed approaches for planning and directing  funding  and services. She is a National and Victorian board member of ASID – Research to Practice, and a member of IASSID.  Patsie is a Research Fellow with the Intellectual Disability research group at LaTrobe University and has held a Research Fellow position at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society. Along with Professor Christine Bigby she won the 2010 ASID Research Prize. She has also been the recipient of a LaTrobe University Faculty of Health Sciences Faculty research grant and in 2003 the DHS Ethel Temby Study Tour Award.
