YOUR RIGHTS when accessing the Study Skills Scheme
- Privacy and confidentiality
You can expect respect for privacy and confidentiality. Your permission will be obtained before any information is shared with another person or agency. - Respect
You are entitled to be treated respectfully and sensitively, regardless of your culture, race, religion or language. - Timely provision of support
You are entitled to see an adviser as soon as possible. Please bear in mind the limited number of advisers and possible waiting list. - Choice of adviser
You have the right to choose your preferred adviser.
What are your RESPONSIBILITIES when accessing the Study Skills Scheme?
- Attendance
Failure to attend two appointments without 24-hour notice of cancellation and/or two repeat cancellations will result in you being precluded from seeing an adviser until the following semester. - Choice of Adviser
Once you have found an adviser you wish to work with on a particular skill, you should not access other advisers unless you terminate your involvement with this adviser or you wish to seek advice on a different matter. - Active Participation
You are expected to actively participate in decision making about your progress. - Acknowledge Responsibility
You may reject advice given by an adviser, but need to acknowledge responsibility for the consequences of any decision to accept or reject the adviser’s advice. Ultimately, you are responsible for the quality of the work you submit for assessment. - Acknowledge limitations
A study skills adviser may refer you to another agency occasionally, when they believe such a referral would be beneficial, even Study Skills Advisers have their limitations!
