A Participant Information Sheet and Consent Details
Dear Participant
If you work with young people in Victoria and you have something to say about providing services to young people who are same sex attracted and/or transgender we would like to invite you to participate in a La Trobe University study into services for same sex attracted and transgender young people called:
Beyond Homophobia: developing a blueprint for same sex attracted and transgender youth futures in Victoria.
The investigators are Dr Daniel Marshall, Dr Lynne Hillier and Associate Professor Anne Mitchell from the Australian Research Centre of Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University. Funding for this project has been provided by The William Buckland Foundation.
The main aim of this project is the development of a policy blueprint for delivering inclusive services (focusing on the fields of education, housing, drugs and alcohol, health services and youth services) to same sex attracted and transgender young people in Victoria. We are also interested in hearing from you if you work in the disability, police or juvenile justice sector.
To participate in this study, all you need to do is to complete an online survey. It will take you between 15-20 minutes to complete, depending on the length of your answers. The survey includes questions about the work you do, the things that help you to provide services to same sex attracted and transgender young people and the things that hinder you from providing services to them.
Your participation in the survey is completely confidential. We will not ask you for your name or contact details. The data we collect will be included in a final report and possibly in other publications related to the project. No identifying information will be included in any publications that result from the research. If you like, we can send you a copy of the final blueprint.
During the project, data will be stored in secure, lockable office space at ARCSHS. Computer files will be password protected. Data from the surveys will be locked in storage at ARCSHS for five years and then destroyed.
Participating in this survey will help us understand what we need to do to improve services for same sex attracted and transgender young people. Your participation will benefit society by helping us collect information about providing services to these young people.
While your participation is keenly sought there are, of course, no disadvantages, penalties or adverse consequences for not participating in this research.
Any questions regarding this project may be directed to the Investigators (Dr Daniel Marshall, of ARCSHS on telephone number 03 9285 5160). To find out more about the project go to http://www.latrobe.edu.au/ssay/
If you have any complaints or queries that the investigator has not been able to answer to your satisfaction, you may contact the Secretary, Faculty Human Ethics Committee, Faculty of Health Sciences, La Trobe University, Victoria, 3086, (ph: (03) 9479 3573), e-mail: n.humphries@latrobe.edu.au)
