Shooting for success

Current La Trobe student, Emma Cox, will compete in this year's Commonwealth Games after securing a place in Team Australia's shooting squad. She will head to Glasgow in July alongside legends of the sport Michael Diamond and Russell and Lauryn Mark to compete in the women's double trap event.

It's a balance

Emma, 21, is studying a Bachelor of Education and has had to balance her commitments to make the team. She lives in Mooroopna, trains in Shepparton and studies teaching two days a week in Bendigo.

Robert Stephenson, Head of the Bendigo Campus, praised Emma for excelling at an international level. He said Emma's achievements are proof that with 'commitment, tenacity and appropriate support … people in [regional] communities can flourish.'

Elite support

Emma is supported in her studies by the Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) program. As an EAFU member, La Trobe is committed to helping athletes such as Emma balance tertiary study with their rigorous training and competition schedules.

There are currently 46 elite athletes enrolled at La Trobe, and the number continues to grow as we increase our focus on becoming Australia's premier sporting university.
