Sporting career highlights

  • Victorian State Team 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014
  • Under 19 Australian Team 2015.

At what age did you start seriously training and competing in your sport(s)?

In 2009, when I was selected in my first Victorian Junior State Team, I was 12 years old

What (and/or who) got you started in the sport?

I was a dancer originally, and a relative thought that I showed natural ability for Lacrosse, so they convinced mum to allow me to play, they selected the club, and well the rest is history. I don't dance anymore (well only in my bedroom).

Are other family members involved in sport? If so, please outline.

My mother Roz is the President of my Lacrosse club Newport, and my older sister played her first game at the age of 30, this year will be her second season. Her comment after playing her first season was "mum you should have forced me to play years ago, I just love this game". She must because she is back playing this season.

Who has been the biggest influence in your sporting career?

The older players in my lacrosse club who have paved the path for what women can achieve internationally in Lacrosse have been my biggest influence. When I was younger one of our seniors was explaining to the club juniors what it was like to play for our country, and the emotion she felt as the announcer introduced the players from the Australian team, and I wanted to experience that and have been working toward my goal ever since.

Who has been the biggest influence in your academic life?

My older sister Kara. She has a degree in both Biomedical Science and Physiotherapy. Her passion for Health Sciences and Community Health has influenced my future career choices.

Do you support any other sport and/or teams?

I am the 2015 Assistant Coach for U13 at my club, and also assist with the development of the sport in the Lacrosse Victoria Quick Stix program. Put on top of that my training schedule, compulsory gym sessions, and study, there isn't a lot more that I can fit in.

How do you relax? Do you have other life interests outside of your sport?

Lacrosse has always been my way to escape from stress. Besides playing, I read and listen to music.  Lately I have been putting more effort into catching up with old school friends even if it is just for a meal or a coffee.

What is one thing that might surprise readers to learn about you?

I am a bit of a Sci-Fi fan – Start Trek, Deep Space 9, Voyager and surprisingly war movies, I loved the series Band of Brothers.

What is your favourite food? Movie? Music/performer?

Anything healthy. I love seafood, but my diet at the moment is pretty regimented.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Dare to dream, you can make things happen, and don't be afraid to take a chance. Always back yourself because you are already a winner. Dig deep because there is always an extra inch you can give

Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?

Everyday do something that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow. Every inch you give counts.
