Pilates aims to develop core strength, improve posture and increase flexibility by using slow controlled movements with no impact.

Yoga is a series of structured poses synchronised with the breath. The benefits of yoga include increased fitness and lower levels of stress and anxiety.

Pilates Floor

Beginner pilates is for those who are new to Pilates. These classes use floor exercises and aims to teach correct posture, breathing and pilates principles.

Intermediate pilates is for those who have completed a 5-6 week course in the last 12 months or attended at least 5 casual pilates classes and understand the basic principles. Get ready to be pushed a little harder.

These classes are aimed at the general population they are not suitable for injury rehabilitation.

Swissball pilates and foam roller Pilates

The addition of equipment to a pilates class increases the difficulty of the exercises and begins to activate an increased amount of postural muscles due to the unstable surface used.

Swissball Pilates is fantastic at improving balance and leg strength, this class is suitable for all levels.

Foam roller Pilates will challenge your core! If you are after an intense abdominal workout this is the class for you. It is also a fantastic class to release those tight muscles throughout your back. it is recommended that you have some pilates experience for this course.  Foam Roller Pilates is currently incorporated into our Intermediate Pilates course.

Yoga

Yoga is a series of structured poses synchronised with the breath. The benefits of yoga include increased fitness and lower levels of stress and anxiety.

There are many different varieties of yoga, each one essentially relies on structured poses (asanas) practised with breath awareness.

The Active on Campus Yoga course offered are 5 week Purna and Hatha Yoga courses. These yoga courses are aimed at all levels of strength, flexibility and experience.

All Yoga class are 1 hour in length and progress through the duration of the courses as participants become familiar with the Asanas (postures).


Purna Yoga

"Yoga for a Strong Mind and Body through Purna Yoga".  In these sessions we will practice Yoga in ways that support the skeleton, improve muscle tone and increase breath capacity.  You will recieve a routine that will strengthen your legs and core; open the hips, mind and heart.  Corse strengthening will support the back, abdominals and standing poses for improved posture.

Classes are 1 Hour in length. Suitable for all levels.

Hatha yoga

Hatha Yoga - for Strength, Flexibility and Health

In this series of classes we will focus on building strength in our Yoga practice, combined with flexibility to bring balance. Yoga is all about finding the balance in ourselves to equip us to lead a full, healthy life. By practicing a range of Yoga Asanas with mindfullness, we find benefits to not only the body but to the mind as well.

Come to the class to be challenged, stretched, toned and then relaxed. The highest priority is to work safely within your own level, so each person’s class experience is to be suited to your own needs.

Make sure you have not eaten for a couple of hours before class, wear loose comfy clothes and please tell the teacher of any injuries or conditions prior to class.

Classes are 1 hour in length. Suitable for all levels.

Meditation - Introduction

In a world that is becoming increasingly complex, pressured and stressful it is important we find a way to maintain some balance in our busy lives.  Meditation has proved to be one of the most effective vehicles for achieving such a balance.  Through meditation we gradually improve our concentration, so we can be more productive and get more out of every day.

Regular meditation can help alleviate symptoms of stress and aid physical health, increasing your level of happiness and wellbeing.  Research has confirmed the many benefits of meditation, including stress relief, improved physical, emotional and mental health, focused and clear thinking, greater relaxation and ease.

This is a 5 week course held for 45 minutes a week in the Sports Centre meeting room.
