Research

My research is related to Jemaah Islamiyah, which was founded in Malaysia on 1 January 1993, and has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks since 2000 of which the largest was the Bali bombing of 12 October 2002. More specifically, the objective of this research is to undertake a biographical study of some of the jihadis involved in order to understand better their motivation and behaviour and, more broadly, Islamic terrorism in Indonesia. I will be undertaking this research in collaboration with Dr Greg Fealy, a research fellow at the Australian National University, who specializes on Islam in Indonesia.
