Qualifications: MBBS (Otago), BA (Hons) & MA (Canterbury, NZ), PhD (Melb)

Tania Lewis worked as a medical practitioner in NZ before retraining in the humanities. She has taught in media studies and cultural studies and has conducted research in a variety of areas including: lifestyle media, culture and consumption; popular experts and celebrity intellectuals; the intellectual history of cultural studies; the network university; and health and lifestyle information on the internet. She recently moved to La Trobe from Monash University where she was a Research fellow in Education. From 2003-2005 she was based in the Centre for Health and Society at the University of Melbourne as the R.D. Wright Research Fellow and in 2002 she was a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies of the Humanities, University of Edinburgh.

Her current research projects include:

  • The ethical turn in lifestyle consumption
  • A comparative international study of lifestyle television, collaborating with Dr Fran Martin (University of Melbourne).

I greatly enjoy supervision and have supervised theses in the fields of media and communications, education and the sociology of health.
