Support

The School of Social Sciences gives postgraduate students the unique opportunity to be a part of a well established, collegial interdisciplinary research community providing a range of resources, facilities and services, as well as funding opportunities to promote development among postgraduate students.

Material Support
Visit the Forms and Resources section and the School’s Postgraduate Handbook for forms and guidelines on: conference funding, School Enhancement Fund grants and IT training. You will also find information here on a range of facilities and services, including stationery, telephone access, email, study rooms, photocopying, etc.

Study Support
Mentoring:
The School has established a peer-to-peer mentoring program for its postgraduate students. For further information speak to your supervisor or the Postgraduate Convenor, Professor John Carroll.

Tutoring and teaching opportunities: Postgraduate students in the School of Social Sciences are given priority for any casual teaching available within their program/area. The School’s postgraduate email list is the most common source for future job opportunities. You can also speak with your supervisor. Your Program will also arrange a session of teaching techniques with the Curriculum, Learning and Teaching Centre, available to all postgraduate students, at least once each year. Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences invite applications for conference and research funding twice a year. Information can be found in the School’s Postgraduate Handbook or at the Faculty website.

University
There are a range services and facilities offered by the University to support postgraduate student in their research, some of which are listed below:

  • Research and Graduate Studies Office: The RGSO is the University’s key source of official University information relating to current Masters by Research and PhD students. It is the responsibility of all postgraduate students to familiarise themselves with the RGSO website, University handbook and forms.
