Sociology ProgramHonours ProgramAn honours information session for 2009 will be held:
The course comprises a core unit (taught jointly with Anthropology), an elective or internship, a second-semester research seminar and a research thesis. The latter is an essay of 12,000 to 15,000 words. Research for the thesis extends through the honours year and is undertaken with the guidance of a supervisor. The Sociology Program welcomes enquiries about the structure of the course, the elective units available, the internship program, and other aspects of the honours course. Information for students considering enrolling in Honours in 2009Entry into the Honours year is by application at the end of the student's third year of study. Students considered for admission will normally have at least an upper B average (75% above) in units of Sociology or Anthropology up to a total of 130 credit points. These units will normally include 20 credit points of subjects classified as Research Methods, and Current Issues in Sociology (SOC2CIS/SOC3CIS). Prospective Honours students are encouraged to take additional Sociology or Anthropology units beyond this minimum requirement, and to include SOC3PSS Practising Social Sciences in their major.
