Work at Mildura
PATHWAY PROGRAM
via BACHELOR OF ARTS (MILDURA) The following course of study qualifies graduates for entry into the profession of social work. It prepares students to practise in a wide range of social work roles including work with individuals, families, groups and communities; social policy; research; and planning and administration. Units offered are a mix of theory and practice-based knowledge. This includes ideas about how individuals, families, communities and societies operate and develop, the ethical and legal framework, research methods and a range of practice skills. To enter the Social Work program at Mildura, students may complete two years of a Bachelor of Arts degree and then go on to complete the two year Bachelor of Social Work (Advanced Standing) degree. This study pathway is available to Current Year 12, Non-Year 12 and Special Entry/Mature-Age entry applicants. The Bachelor of Social Work (Advanced Standing) degree commences in 2007. Eligibility for the Bachelor of Social Work (Advanced Standing) degree is a minimum of two years of approved university study. Study Program for
Bachelor of Arts pathway and the Bachelor of Social Work (Advanced Standing)
Entry in the Bachelor of Arts (Mildura) program (refer to 2008 VTAC Guide) Prerequisite studies: units 3 and 4 and a study score of at least 20 in English (any). Selection mode: Current Year 12: ENTER and two-stage process with a middle band of approximately 20%. Non-Year 12: ENTER and/or academic record, possible VTAC Pi form. Middle-band selection: consideration will be given to performance in the following studies: English (any), humanities (any), LOTE (any), drama, theatre studies, legal studies, psychology. Extra requirements: Non-Year 12 may complete the VTAC Pi form. Course structure for the BA: 360 credit point degree with a major of 130 credit points in one discipline. Students undertake at least three disciplines in their first year of study. Major studies: English, history, philosophy, psychology, social sciences. Special Entry/Mature Age applicants must fulfil the requirements specified in VTAC's Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) Booklet and the University's Special Entry/Mature Age requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (Mildura). BACHELOR OF SOCIAL
WORK (ADVANCED STANDING) DEGREE Prerequisite studies: successful completion of a degree, or a minimum of two years approved university studies in arts, social sciences, psychology, teaching, nursing, economics, legal studies, politics or related disciplines. Selection mode: academic record and relevant work, volunteer and general life experience. For access and equity reasons, applicants with an established connection with a particular region will receive special consideration when applying to the rural campus in that region. Extra requirements: all applicants must provide the required Supplementary Application as specified in the application materials available from the relevant campus. Some applicants may be required to attend an interview, which may be held in November/December. Applicants required to attend an interview will be contacted. Attendance at a course information session, where offered, is also strongly recommended. Note: all students who enrol in the
Bachelor of Arts at Mildura, and meet the requirements as detailed hereunder,
will automatically be granted admission into the Bachelor of Social Work
(Advanced Standing) degree. These requirements are as follows:
