Narratives of work, vocation and meaning

Dr Sara James

This project is about the significance of work in the new capitalism. It uses in-depth interviews with workers of different ages and across a broad range of occupations. The interviews were conducted between 2007 and 2009 in Melbourne. As a major urban centre being fully pulled into the traffic of globalization and neoliberalism, Melbourne is an ideal laboratory for exploring the meaning of work in today's 'liquid' modern world. A book based on this research will be published by Ashgate in 2016.
