Jigsaw

John Roeburt (original story) (1)

Of all the production crew, John Roeburt's was the only name that I recognised, and that was only because I have an interest in trashy crime fiction. I own three of Roeburt's novels in paperback editions: Tough cop (1949), The hollow man (1954), and The mobster (1960). They are all decent example of postwar hardboiled crime writing, but none of them shows any particular interest in political conspiracies. The blurb on the inside cover of Tough cop tells me that in 1949 Roeburt won an Edgar (awarded by the Mystery Writers of America) for his work on the radio crime series, Inner sanctum.

As for many involved in the production of this film, Jigsaw appears to have been the first feature on which Roeburt received screen credit. Roeburt also wrote scripts and/or stories for St Benny the dip and Babes in Bagdad, subsequent Danziger brothers' productions. After Babes, Roeburt may not have worked in movies until 1961.
