Meet our student
Mr Craig Doubleday
Course of study:
Bachelor of Civil Engineering 2008
The decision to study at La Trobe Bendigo was a great choice for me. At the start of 3rd year I was fortunate enough to be awarded a scholarship offered by a Shepparton-based consultancy firm, Chris Smith and Associates. This led on to part time work during the academic year, as well as the usual holiday periods. Now I have been working with the same people for over two years.
My duties at Chris Smith and Associates are both interesting and varied, and include conceptual and detailed design of infrastructure, cost estimates, tendering, invoicing and project management, and liaison with clients and authorities.
Some of the projects I have been involved with over the last few months include sewerage and water reticulation design for housing estates, a road shoulder widening, cost estimation and apportionment, as well as the design of many stormwater solutions incorporating retention and water quality improvement systems. Upcoming projects include the design of a carpark, the development of a stormwater strategy for an urban growth corridor and the design of a large-scale stormwater capture and reuse system.
The knowledge I gained whilst studying at La Trobe Bendigo is serving me well, and initially I was surprised by how much of it I use on a daily basis. Approachable lecturers and small class sizes made studying more enjoyable, and the subjects covered provided me with a valuable knowledge base for when I entered the workforce.
Studying Civil Engineering at La Trobe Bendigo was definitely the right choice.
