Meet our student
Ms Katie Howard
Technical Support Officer in Wildlife Ecology, Arthur Rylah Institute, Department of Sustainability and the Environment
Course of study:
Bachelor of Biological Sciences (Honours) 2004
I work within the threatened species program, assisting with research projects on species such as the Long-footed Potoroo, Alpine She-oak Skink and the Smoky Mouse. I coordinate the fieldwork and assist with the collection and collation of research data. A lot of my time is also spent in the field visiting remote areas of Victoria. There are great opportunities to collaborate with researchers in other sections of this large organisation and to become involved in a myriad of projects including introduced and pest species management, and botanical and freshwater research. Working at ARI has provided me with invaluable field experience and training, as well as broadening my professional network. I continue to expand my skills and develop a strong knowledge base on multiple species, as well as the current techniques used in animal detection, tracking and trapping.
