Meet our student
Ms Kelly Dalton
Assistant Environmental Supervisor, Great Southern Forestry
Course of study:
Bachelor of Conservation Biology and Ecology (Honours) 2006
I work as an Assistant Environmental Supervisor for a forestry project based on the Tiwi Islands, 80km north of Darwin.
A majority of my work is conducted in the field and involves threatened species surveys for fauna across the islands. I regularly conduct small mammal, reptile and bird surveys in order to meet Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act legislative requirements and the company’s environmental management program. All the information I collect is also used to help determine whether areas are suitable for forestry plantations and is submitted to the appropriate regulatory bodies.
I really enjoy my job as it allows me to see and study many native Australian fauna species that are rarely encountered and whose ecology is often poorly known.
