Meet our student
Ms Lucinda Gibson
Project Officer, Melbourne Museum
Course of study:
Bachelor of Conservation Biology and Ecology (Honours) 2006
I work as a project officer in the Entomology collection at Melbourne Museum. My work involves producing highly detailed, diagnostic photographs of fragile and often very old specimens from the Australian insect and arachnid collection. I use a digital camera with macro lenses and a number of computer programs to produce the final photographs. These photographs go onto the museums’ database and will eventually be on the internet so that people, particularly researchers from all around the world, will be able to access them with the click of a button.
I enjoy this job because it combines my fascination with entomology and the Australian fauna with my interest in photography. I also have the opportunity of working with and learning from many experienced and knowledgeable people. Insects are fascinating creatures and it is exciting to be able to observe them in such great detail as a part of my career.
