Bachelor of Agricultural Science/Bachelor of International Development 2013
After finishing year 12, I took two years off before starting at La Trobe.
I was interested in both the technical aspects of food production and the complex social and political context in which food production and consumption unfold. I was concerned about how a growing population with increasingly extravagant food preferences would manage to feed itself in the face of limited resources and a changing climate. When I was choosing my degree, I was looking for a course that would allow me to explore these areas of interest. I hope that the skills and understanding that I develop during my degree will help me to contribute to socially and environmentally sound systems of food production in the future.
I have found the teaching staff at La Trobe to be very approachable, and extremely generous with their time. Both staff and students contribute to a positive learning environment, supported by the extensive study resources available to students.
La Trobe’s Melbourne campus has a fantastic library facility. It provides ample space for both quiet study and group work and allows students to access a wide range of print and electronic material. The library also offers valuable assistance with research.
My degree gives me a huge range of exciting career possibilities, and it could quite literally take me anywhere in the world.
