Meet our student
Mr Caspar Roxburgh
Course of study:
Bachelor of Agricultural Science/Bachelor of International Development 2012
My aim is to work with government and non-government organisations in developing countries, improving land management practices to increase yields for subsistence growers. It’s my dream to one day direct my own NGO in the field of Agricultural Development. This course has prepared me for this career better than any other undergraduate degree in Australia could.
I completed an industry cadetship with Rjik Zwaan, Australia. I worked as a farm assistant and researcher for the company, working in seed production. I was given the opportunity to design and run an experiment for their research department and assisted on two other trials. It was an extremely valuable experience. My studies at La Trobe gave me all the skills I needed for the work.
The best thing about La Trobe is the environment on campus. The layout of La Trobe means that despite its size, you will always run into your friends when you are there. I love the aesthetic appeal of the campus – the gardens, the moat – but I am also heavily involved in student clubs. I helped create one club and have been vice president of another.
I love this university and the people I have met here have become great friends. There is a certain accessibility and openness about La Trobe which I don’t see in other universities. All my friends love studying here too.
I’m almost certain I will come back to study again in the future.
