Overview

This laboratory workshop provides students with hands-on approach to understanding the chemistry of water. Students will complete four experiments in which they explore the physical and chemical properties of water. They will use specialised equipment which is generally unavailable in school laboratories. The experiments highlight some of the environmental problems associated with water being such a good solvent. The experiments are: distillation of water and a number of alcohols; properties of hard water; identification of common ions in solution; colorimetric determination of a detergent.

This laboratory workshop is designed to support the extended experimental investigation or the summary report SAC.
