Planning your visit

Here is some information that you may find helpful when planning your visit to La Trobe University. We always try to be as flexible as possible. If you have any special requirements or requests, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss them.

What types of activities are there?

There are several different types of activities for students. The first are practical sessions that take the form of workshops in a variety of disciplines within science, technology and engineering. These activities can be combined with campus tours or presentations about careers and courses for a specific discipline or a more general presentation that covers all of science, technology and engineering. All our activities aim to help prospective students make informed choices about their future. Visit our activities for students to find out more about the activities on offer.

Can my students attend more than one activity in a day?

Yes, subject to availability and scheduling. Many of the activities that focus on the same discipline are designed so that one or more activities can be done in a visit. We try to be as flexible as possible and can design a program that will suit the needs of your students. A program could include multiple activities, a campus tour and a presentation about careers and courses for a specific discipline or a more general talk for science, technology and engineering. Please complete the booking request form with the relevant details or contact us to discuss your visit.

What can I do if the number of students I want to bring exceeds the maximum number of students for an activity

If the number of students exceeds the maximum number of students for an activity by only a small amount, we may be able to accommodate you. Just let us know and we can decide if this is possible.

If the number of students exceeds the maximum number of students for an activity by a large amount, it may be possible to divide the group of students into two and run two different sessions in parallel. For example, a group of students would be broken up into two groups, with the first group attending one session and the second attending a different session. Once these sessions finished, the groups would swap and the students would attend the alternate session.

Attending activities for different subjects on the same day/at the same time

Why not think about bringing a group of students who are studying different subjects out to La Trobe, where each group can go off and attend an activity related to their subject area at the same time? This is possible, provided that a mutually suitable time for both you and the hosts of the activities can be found. This is a particularly good solution if you don't have enough students in a class or taking a subject to make a visit to La Trobe University viable for your school or for schools that are not close to La Trobe and whose travel time may be high.

Have an idea for an activity or professional development program that we don't have?

Tell us about it!

We would be very happy to hear from you if you have an idea for an activity or topic that you feel students would benefit from. We are also looking to expand our professional development programs and would love your feedback on the topics you would like covered and what models of delivery suit you. If you have any suggestions, please contact the STAP coordinator.
