University-based Research Centres and Institutes
AgriBio brings together the Victorian Department of Environment and Primary Industries, the largest agricultural R&D organisation in the State, and La Trobe, one of the top Universities in Victoria. It will lead to better science outcomes for Victoria and Australia. Up to 400 staff will be accommodated including scientists, students and support staff.
Electron spectroscopy and surface science research have now become well established at various centres throughout Australia - the Centre for Materials and Surface Science, located at our Melbourne campus, is a key centre of this activity. Research activities are mostly within the areas of materials and surface science. They involve significant interaction with local and international industrial and academic research organisations.
The Centre for Technology Infusion is a Research and Product Realisation Centre at the Research and Development Park in Bundoora. Our objectives are translational research, innovation and product realisation; moving research and innovation into the public and private sectors; and providing access to infrastructure and technologies for research, innovation and commercialisation.
The La Trobe Institute of Molecular Science will train the next generation of scientists to develop a robust biotechnology industry. Disciplines including biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, pharmacy, plant biology, physiology, physics and molecular archaeology will share workspace to achieve aims that would not be possible in traditional academic settings.
The Olga Tennison Autism Research Centre advances knowledge of the nature and causes of Autism Spectrum Disorders. We develop and study evidence-based strategies for supporting affected children and families.
National and International Research Centres and Institutes
The Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics (ACB) is a multi-nodal interdisciplinary Centre that uniquely brings together genomic and post-genomic bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics, systems analysis and experimental phenomics to produce a deep understanding of how information in the genome is transformed into structure and function in the mammalian cell.
The Centre of Excellence in Coherent X-ray Science shares a $9 million Australian Research Council grant and a $1.8 million State Technology Initiative grant. The ARC funded Centre brings together physicists, chemists and biologists to develop new approaches to probing biological structures and processes.
Complex systems play a key role in activities vital to the functioning and well-being of society and humanity. The research of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems focuses on understanding and managing these complex systems.
The Key Centre for Statistical Science links statisticians and econometricians from La Trobe University, Monash University and RMIT University. We aim to offer courses leading to a BSc (Hons), BCom (Hons) or a Masters degree.
The Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre provides scientific advice to support sustainable management of the ecology of the Basin.
The Victorian Centre for Advanced Materials Manufacturing offers a one-stop interface to maximise knowledge and technology transfer between industry and the research community.
The Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing is a leading, independent eResearch and Advanced Computing R&D service provider.
