Science takes out both Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching - December 2008
On 5 December, at the 2008 Colloquium on Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, Paul Johnson, Vice Chancellor of La Trobe University Paul Johnson presented the 2008 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching to two staff within Science, Technology and Engineering: Dr Susan Lawler and Dr John Banks.
Dr John Banks, Lecturer, Department of Mathematics, was commended for his excellent record of curriculum development and reflective practice.
Dr Susan Lawler, Senior Lecturer, Department of Environmental Management and Ecology, was also praised for her excellence in curriculum development, as well as her outstanding record as a classroom teacher and postgraduate supervisor.
The Faculty would like to congratulate Dr Lawler and Dr Banks on their well-deserved awards.

- Employed at LTU since 1996 (and member of La Trobe Alumni)
- Over the last few years has taught a range of mathematics subjects: topology, topology and analysis, discrete mathematics, mathematical topics for computer sciences, mathematics and computing for biology

- Member of the Faculty Research and Graduate Studies Committee
- Received the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence in the Faculty of Science and Technology 2007
- Received LTU Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning 2008
- Received Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning 2008
