CONNECT - Transition Program
The Program aims
- To help our new students become more confident and reduce their anxiety and apprehension in the move to university.
- To utilise the experience of our higher year students to offer peer support to those new to the University.
- To allow our higher year students to share their first year experiences.
What is the CONNECT Transition Program?
New students who are enrolling in the Faculty for the first time as an undergraduate can register with CONNECT to be paired up with one of our mentors who is enrolled in a similar course (subject to current student availability). This is a program for new students in the Faculty of Science, Technology & Engineering at the Bundoora Campus.
CONNECT mentors are all volunteers. They can relate to what new students are going through. New students can talk with their CONNECT mentor to gain the confidence to meet this new chapter in their life.
During Orientation Week, CONNECT mentors meet with the new students at an informal session. Here they share some initial information and establish lines of communication.
For the first five weeks of the semester CONNECT mentors are available for contact by registered new students. They provide help and advice, and maintain regular communication to ensure new students are successfully managing the move to university study.
The mentors are able to share their knowledge and experience of adapting to university life and can help new students seek additional support from the many different support services the University has to offer.
They also help new students discover the wide range of opportunities on offer and encourage them to actively get involved to enhance their experience as a student in the Faculty, and in the wider University.
All students involved in the program can communicate with each other and get help and advice using the CONNECT Program's LMS site [Learning Management System - password access required]). This site contains a range or resources and links along with a discussion board for students to use when the Program starts.
