Sustainable engineering

Why study Sustainable engineering?

Sustainability and global warming are significant contemporary issues addressed by our electronic engineering and civil engineering courses.

In electronic engineering’s sustainable energy production specialisation, you will study zero-emissions power generation, conversion technologies, and transmission line and other communications technologies for the renewable energy industry.

In our civil engineering course, you will study climate, sustainability and society; environmental law; civil construction and environment; environmental case studies; and sustainable infrastructure. Understand the role of engineering technologists in the community and develop an awareness of the social and environmental effects of your decisions.

Career opportunities

Graduates of electronic engineering are prepared for work in manufacturing, research and development, maintenance, quality control, medical related industries, space and physics related industries and consumer goods companies.

Graduates of civil engineering are prepared for work in private industry, consultancies, local, state, and federal government organisations, and in research. Career paths range from general engineering practice and management roles up to CEO level.

Course description
Engineering impacts virtually every aspect of society. There are many specialties within civil engineering, such as structural, construction, environment, and transportation engineering. Engineers should be creative, curious, analytical, and detail orientated. As a trained civil engineer, you may manage people and projects, oversee a construction sites or work in design, research and teaching.

This course aims to prepare you to work in the design, construction and maintenance of almost all basic types of contemporary infrastructure. This includes bridges, multi-storey buildings, highways, railways, tunnels, airports, domestic water supplies, irrigation systems, flood protection work, and the collection and disposal of wastes and waste water.

You can combine this course with either science or business courses in double degree programs. The curriculum also emphasises the importance of people skills, as engineers often work as part of a team in a wide range of fields.
Prerequisite
VCE Units 3 & 4: English (any), Mathematical Methods, and either Physics or Specialist Mathematics.
Year 12 and non-year 12 extra requirements
