Brief profile

  • Mac completed a Ph.D in X-ray Physics, La Trobe University in 2012. His doctoral thesis is about "Multi-wavelength elemental contrast imaging (MWECI)". It is a technique that offers an ability to quantitatively determine the density distribution of an element of interest from a compound sample. The MWECI technique involves intensity measurements at three different energies across an absorption edge of the element, which allows the density distribution of the element to be reconstructed by a normalisation procedure. The MWECI technique has particular advantages over the conventional absorption edge contrast imaging technique and its analogue, phase edge contrast imaging. In particular, the MWECI technique continues to be accurate even when large energy intervals are used; and even when the percentage composition of that element in the sample is low.
  • He has been a postdoctoral research fellow in La Trobe Uni since January 2012.
