Special entry access schemes

Mature-age special entry scheme

The University will consider an applicant who:

  • is 21 years of age on 1 January of the year for which enrolment is sought;
  • is not a year 12 applicant; and
  • has not satisfied minimum tertiary requirements; and
  • has completed the appropriate Personal History  form; and
  • has sat the appropriate Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) as specified in www.latrobe.edu.au/courses Find a course and
  • has completed any other extra requirements for mature-age entry specified in

Find a course.

VTAC applicants should apply through SEAS Category 1: Personal Information and Location.

Interstate applicants should contact the University for a Mature-Age Special entry form.

Indigenous applicants

This category is applicable to both current Year 12 and Non-year 12 applicants who are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (Indigenous Australians).  Applicants self identify, are descended from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and are accepted as such by the Indigenous community in which they live or have lived.

As a general rule, the University will select into a course all applicants who have a reasonable prospect of successfully completing the course and who meet course prerequisites and other published compulsory course requirements.

Selection decisions for Indigenous Australian applicants will be made by faculties after consultation with Indigenous Student Services.

VTAC applicants should apply through SEAS Category 1: Personal Information and Location.

Bonus aggregate points: 15 points

Rural and regional student access scheme (RRSAS)

For special entry and access applicants a bonus will apply to applicants whose home postcode is classified as RA2 or higher, using the Australian Standard Geographical Classification ASGC postcode classification system. (e.g. Bendigo, Wodonga, Shepparton, Mildura would all qualify for a bonus.) 

VTAC applicants should apply through SEAS Category 1: Personal Information and Location.

Bonus aggregate points: 5 aggregate points for regional students applying to courses at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus. 10 aggregate points for regional students applying to courses at Bendigo, Albury Wodonga, Mildura and Shepparton.

Please note variation to La Trobe's Bachelor of Health Sciences in Dentistry/Master of Dentistry, students living in RRMA zones 3 & 4 receive 10 points added to their ATAR, students in RRMA zones 5 & 6 receive 12.5 bonus points, and students living in RRMA zone 7 receive 15 bonus points added to their ATAR.

Low SES

An aggregate bonus will apply (see Schedule 1) to any applicant to SEAS Category 1 (Personal Information and Location) or the equivalent EAS category (NSW) whose residential home address for the three years prior to application is on a list of low SES postcodes (PDF 304KB).

VTAC applicants should apply through SEAS Category 1: Personal Information and Location.

Bonus aggregate points: 5

Difficult circumstances

For special entry and access applicants with difficult circumstances, a sliding scale of aggregate bonuses will be given according to whether the disadvantage is severe, moderate or slight. Prima facie the University will accept the ranking provided by the responsible person signing the form.

VTAC applicants should apply through SEAS Category 3: Difficult Circumstances.

Bonus aggregate points: Sliding scale up to 10 points for severe disadvantage.

Disadvantaged financial background

For special entry and access applicants with disadvantaged financial background, a sliding scale of aggregate bonuses will be given according to whether the disadvantage is severe, moderate or slight. Prima facie the University will accept the ranking provided by the responsible person signing the form.

VTAC applicants should apply through SEAS Category 4: Disadvantaged Financial Background.

Bonus aggregate points: Sliding scale up to 10 points for severe disadvantage.

Non-English speaking background

For special entry and access applicants with a non-English speaking background, an aggregate bonus will apply.

Non-English speaking background: A domestic student who arrived in Australia less than 10 years prior to the year in which the data were collected, and who comes from a home where a language other than English is spoken.

VTAC applicants should apply through SEAS Category 2: Non-english Speaking Background.

Bonus aggregate points: 5

Disability or long term medical condition

For special entry and access applicants with a disability or long term medical condition, a sliding scale of aggregate increases will be given according to whether the condition is severe, moderate or slight (see Schedule 1). Prima facie the University will accept the ranking provided by the responsible person signing the form.

VTAC applicants should apply through SEAS Category 5: Disability or Long Term medical Condition.

Bonus aggregate points: Sliding scale up to 10 points for severe disadvantage.

Maximum bonus

Where an applicant is eligible for multiple bonuses, the maximum aggregate bonus which any applicant may receive is 25.

La Trobe access programs

Mature-age admission related to work experience

For selected courses, the University will consider an applicant who:

  • is 21 years of age on 1 January of the year for which enrolment is sought;
  • is not a year 12 applicant and is not applying on the basis of year 12 results; and
  • has no record of TAFE or University study; and
  • has a minimum of twelve months full-time paid employment since completing secondary school.
  • achieves a minimum rank of 65 according to the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) codes; and
  • has completed any other extra requirements for mature-age entry specified in Find a Course. www.latrobe.edu.au/courses

Apply by TAC and submit additional documentation direct to the university.

Tertiary enabling program

Students who successfully complete the La Trobe University accredited Tertiary Enabling Program (TEP) will be eligible to apply for entry to selected courses (Schedule 3) on the basis of their TEP results.

Applications for these courses may be made through VTAC (if the applicant also wishes to apply for a scholarship), or direct to the University.  TEP applicants to the courses in Schedule 3 are not required to sit a STAT.

TEP students are eligible to apply for entry to other courses through the Mature Age Special Entry Scheme.  Applications are made through the Direct Application Process.

Uni bridges program

Students who complete the Uni Bridges Program at participating schools (Bendigo Senior SC, Mill Park SC, Reservoir HS) are eligible to apply for selected degrees (Schedule 4) based on school recommendation, not ATAR. 

Schools will make a recommendation to LTU by early October, and based on the recommendation, LTU may offer a place to the student by mid-late October, prior to students sitting their exams. 

The offer will be conditional on the student having the course/s listed on their VTAC application and the completion of their exams.  Furthermore, UniBridges students

  • may apply through Schools Access La Trobe for entry into other degrees, and;
  • may apply through VTAC for normal entry to the University to any degree

How to apply

If you’re applying through VTAC, you can complete a SEAS application as a part of your online application. The process is:

  1. Register with VTAC and submit your VTAC course application.
  2. Log into MyInfo (using your VTAC ID and PIN) and click on the SEAS application link.
  3. If you are eligible for more than one SEAS category, you must submit information for each category separately.

If you’re applying through UAC, you should download and complete a UAC Alternative Category Entry Form (PDF 20KB) and submit it to the University.

Direct applications and SEAS

All undergraduate direct entry applicants will be afforded the same opportunity for consideration of disadvantage as TAC applicants.
