Six steps to apply

These six easy steps show you how easy it is to apply to study at La Trobe.
Step 1: Choose your course
La Trobe offers more than 120 undergraduate courses in a range of subject areas across its five Victorian campuses. Browse through La Trobe’s different faculties or use the Find a Course site to find courses that interest you.
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) and the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) also provide overviews of La Trobe courses.
Step 2: Check your course requirements
While entry to most undergraduate courses offered by La Trobe is based on a student’s ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), some courses also require other supporting information. For example, to gain entry into certain courses you may be requested to present a portfolio or attend an interview at the University.
When researching courses you might also notice that some require students to have taken certain subjects during Years 11 and 12 (these are called prerequisites). Before you apply for these courses you need to complete these prerequisite high-school subjects.
It’s also worth noting a course’s clearly-in ATAR from the previous year and its middle band criteria. This criteria may take into consideration your results from Year 12 subjects related to the course, any disadvantages you may have experienced in your final year of studies, and your performance in the GAT should you choose to sit it.
Step 3: Consider your entry pathways
There are a variety of entry pathways into La Trobe. All school students applying for an undergraduate place need to apply through VTAC (interstate students can also apply through UAC for courses offered at the Mildura or Albury-Wodonga campuses). Please visit the VTAC or UAC website to learn more about the application process.
If you are a school student and you are concerned you may not gain the ATAR you require to get into your preferred course, there are other options available. The University also offers special entry schemes to grant extra consideration to select students.Step 4: Visit Us
Visiting one of La Trobe’s campuses is a great way to experience university life.
At events including Talk and Tour, Experience La Trobe, and Open Days you can chat with staff and students, find out about courses and applying to La Trobe, get hands-on classroom experience, and visit some of La Trobe's fantastic facilities.
Step 5: Apply
Students apply to study at La Trobe by submitting an application through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre VTAC (or the Universities Admission Centre for interstate students applying to La Trobe’s Albury-Wodonga and Mildura campuses).
Timely applications close at 5pm on Friday 28 September, 2012. Applications are accepted after this date but a late fee will apply. Once you have applied, you have plenty of time in which to change your preferences. See application closing dates.
Step 6: Accept your offer
If you are offered a place at La Trobe for 2012, you will receive a letter of offer from VTAC or UAC, then an enrolment pack from La Trobe.
