Mr Aidan Pearce
Course of study:
Bachelor of Business (Sports Management)
Studying sport management and working alongside athletes, I now see sport as the business it is.
La Trobe gave me the opportunity to study a well-rounded business degree while also gaining sport specific knowledge. The Bachelor of Business (Sport Management) has set me up to work meaningfully in the sport industry.
My course was a great balance of important business theory and sport specific knowledge. I completed business subjects in the area of accounting & finance, business economics and business analytics. I was also required to take sport management and sport marketing subjects. In second year, half of my subjects focused on business areas and the others were sport specific subjects.
My final year included Sports Practicum, a subject that required me to do hands on experience in a sporting organisation. This was great as I was able to get real-life experience and put classroom theory into practice through work experience at Kings XI Punjab (IPL Cricket Team) and Melbourne City FC (A-League Football).
I really enjoyed my time in the classroom and I benefited from learning from both my teachers and peers. Classrooms discussions were often dynamic which really helped my learning. My classmates had a similar passion for sport as me which proved to be a fantastic icebreaker and I was able to make great friends during my studies.
Overall, this course gave me a great balance of important business theory and sport specific knowledge, which I have use in my current position. The practical element of my degree was superb, thanks to La Trobe University’s many partnerships with local and international sporting organisations.
Currently, I am a Project Officer within the Sport Department of a La Trobe. This involves coordinating programs such as the Intercollegiate Sport Competition. I have also been assisting the manager of Sport Partnerships by completing research projects and also working in the sports clubs space as we look to upgrade the University’s sporting clubs on and off the field. I hope to continue working in sport and equip myself with the skillset to take on further responsibility ongoing.
