Brief profile

Alan is an Associate Lecturer in the Graduate Diploma in Education (Middle Years) in the Faculty of Education - Shepparton Campus.

Prior to joining the University in 2008, Alan held the position of Principal of Shepparton High School. He took up the appointment in July, 1992. During this time he saw many significant changes in education. A major change that Alan led in his school was the move to self-managed schools introduced by the Kennett Government.

During his time as principal, he held many positions of leadership within the Hume Region. He developed a particular interest in English as a Second Language and Koorie students. He also led his school through the development of a Performance and Development Culture resulting in accreditation in 2006. His school was involved in the Yachad Accelerated Learning Project (YALP), which saw the school being awarded the national Numeracy Award in 2007 for the development and implementation of a numeracy program across the school, with input from YALP.

Highlights of his time as principal included taking four students to an international student conference in Pretoria, South Africa in 1998; participation in a two week study tour to South Africa with iNET and tour leader Professor Brian Caldwell in 2004; being awarded a Ron Castan Fellowship and being leader of a study tour to the Hebrew University, Jerusalem in January, 2007.

Alan commenced his career as primary school teacher at a small rural school close to Geelong. After one year he moved into teaching in technical schools in Geelong and he remained in Geelong until his move to Shepparton in 1992.
