SAP at La Trobe University
SAP is the name of the German company that developed the SAP business system and also of the system itself. SAP has an excellent reputation both locally and abroad and has been installed by many of the world’s largest companies. La Trobe University has implemented various SAP Financial modules, the Materials Management module and the Human Resources module. These modules provide different views of La Trobe’s resources, financial situation and business performance. SAP is supported and maintained by the Business Systems Unit (BSU) in conjunction with Finance Division, Human Resources and Information Technology Services (ITS). Getting

SAP
Accounts and Training A distinction is made between End Users - staff who use SAP to manage their area's funds and resources, raise purchase requisitions, run reports etc. and Core Users who work in the areas of Finance, Human Resources, Procurements and Business Services and undertake functions such as payroll, creating purchase orders, paying vendors, setting up funds, etc. End User training sessions are run approximately every month. Training for Core Users must be organised in conjunction with their supervisor. It is recommended that Core Users without any previous SAP experience attend the End User SAP introductory training. More about Access and Accounts SAP SoftwareSAP uses 'client-server' software. This means that the major system runs on computers in Information Technology Services which are accessed using client software installed on desktop computers. The SAP client software is part of the University's standard operating environment and should be pre-installed on your desktop computer. Contact your local IT Support if you do not have the SAP client software installed on your desktop computer or if you experience problems running SAP.
About
SAP SAP (Systeme, Anwendungen, Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung or Systems, Applications and Products in Data processing), a German corporation, has developed the R/3 system (referred to as R/3) which is a Client / Server-based information management program. Using R/3 as a tool, La Trobe University is able to effectively link together all of the budget activities (including the modules of finance, purchasing, asset management, and human resources), thus ensuring all budget transactions in the University are accessible to all areas through a single database. Access is controlled by different levels of security, known as roles. Further information about the company can be found at the SAP web site.
