Our well established Bachelor of Nursing program runs across the four campuses of the Rural School. We also offer postgraduate Midwifery and a range of postgraduate clinical specialty courses. Our strong links with hospitals and health services across rural Victoria allow our students to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of rural Victorians. Clinical supervision is provided by clinical nurses and midwives delivering patient care, as well as academic nursing and midwifery staff from La Trobe.
We offer undergraduate, postgraduate and higher degree by research courses. We also offer Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs.
Nursing study areas
Nurses promote health and well-being and look after the health care needs of people of all ages and from all cultures. We have an excellent reputation for our nursing education and offer a range of pathways to become a Registered Nurse.
Midwives provide care, supervision and advice to women during pre-conception, pregnancy, labour and birth, and postnatally. Midwives work in a number of settings including hospitals, birthing centres, community centres and women's homes.
Suitably qualified, internationally-registered nurses with approval from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), are eligible to undertake the 13 week, non-award Initial Registration for Overseas Nurses (IRON Program). Successful completion of IRON will lead to registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia.
