Scholarships and Candidature

La Trobe University offers an extensive scholarship and candidature program for postgraduate students who are undertaking higher degrees by research. The Research and Graduate Studies Office coordinates the administration of Masters by research and Doctoral candidature, and scholarships for these degrees. Scholarships are available for Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents, and a limited number of awards are available to overseas applicants.

Institute for Advanced Study Postgraduate Writing-Up Awards (IASPWA)

The IASPWA scheme is designed to support doctoral candidates who, having submitted their thesis, wish to write up some of their reserach findings for publications while they await the result of their examination.

Candidature

Applicants for Doctoral candidature should already hold a Masters degree or have completed an Honours Bachelor degree at a very high level of achievement.

Applicants for Masters by Research candidature are usually required to have completed an Honours degree or Masters Preliminary.

Applications for candidature are welcome all year. The closing date for applications for scholarships is 31 October for Australian and New Zealand citizens and 30 September for overseas applicants.

Prospective applicants for Doctoral or Masters by Research Degrees should contact the Faculty in which they wish to study to acsertain the availability of supervision.
