Reset Password - Staff and Student Active Directory Account
You MUST register before you can reset your password.

La Trobe University has provided an online utility for both staff and students to change their own Active Directory passwords. Without your Active Directory username and password you will not be able to access these systems.
What Do I Need To Do?
Register
You must register your Active Directory username with the online utility before you can use it to change your Active Directory password.
Begin the registration process.
You must already know your Active Directory password to successfully register. If you do not know your password please see the section below entitled How do I reset my password if I can't use the online utility.
Successful registration will be confirmed both on-screen and with an email.
Ensure all browser windows are closed after registering.
The questions that are presented to you (and their answers) when resetting your Active Directory password can be changed by registering again.
There is no limit to the number of times your may register.
Reset Password
Reset your Active Directory password.
Answer the questions correctly and you will receive an on-screen and email confirmation that your password has been changed.
Use your new password to access these systems.
The answers to your questions are viewable as you type them - ensure the privacy of your screen when using this utility.
Close all browser windows after resetting your Active Directory password.
Access to the online utility will be blocked after 2 unsuccessful attempts at answering the questions.
Staff - please contact the ITS Service Desk (phone 9479 1500) to remove the block.
Students - please contact the staff listed at http://www.latrobe.edu.au/studyhall/contact.html to remove the block.
What is the Password Complexity Policy?
Section 3.3 of the Password Reset for ITS Managed Systems Policy (http://www.latrobe.edu.au/its/policies/pritsms.htm) states:
"Passwords will be complex and will consist of a minimum of eight characters, mixed case, digits and other non-control characters"
This means that your password must be a minimum of 8 characters and contain at least 3 of the 4 following types of characters:
- Upper case (A, B, C, D, E ...)
- Lower case (a, b, c, d, e ...)
- Number (1, 2, 3, 4, ...)
- Non alpha-numeric (!, @, #, $ ...)
Why Does My Password Keep Expiring?
Section 3.1 of the Password Reset for ITS Managed Systems Policy (http://www.latrobe.edu.au/its/policies/pritsms.htm) states:
"Administrators shall establish password expiry periods of not more than 90 days"
To ensure the security of your password it is set to expire 90 days from when you last reset your password.
What Systems Rely On My Active Directory Account?
The following systems rely on your Active Directory account for access:
Staff
Logging on to a computer with your LTU account
Email
ESS
PCMS
CBT (Computer Based Training)
VPN
Wireless
Students
Logging on to a computer with your STUDENTS account
Email
WebCT
StudentOnLine
CBT (Computer Based Training)
Library
Wireless
When you change your password using the online utility you are changing your password for all of these systems. Once you have successfully changed your password you will need to use your new password to access these systems.
Can I change my password without using the online utility?
You can change your password without using the online utility if
- you know what your existing password is,
- you can use a computer that is logged on with either an LTU or STUDENTS account, and
- the computer is connected to La Trobe University's network (ie the computer has an IP address of 131.172.xx.xx or 149.144.xx.xx).

How do I reset my password if I can't use the online utility?
Staff should follow the procedures outlined in the Password Reset for ITS Managed Systems Policy (http://www.latrobe.edu.au/its/policies/pritsms.htm)
