Managing contracts

Step 1 – Preparing the contract

When researchers are notified that their proposal has been successful they should contact the Contracts team at

Step 2 – Negotiating the contract

The Contracts team will liaise with the University's Legal Services office who will review the contract and ensure that all contractual requirements are met. The Contracts team will negotiate directly with the other party's on the researcher's behalf.

Step 3 – Establishing the project

Once the contract has been negotiated the Contracts Team will arrange for an authorised University representative to sign the agreement and forward the contract to the other party's for execution. The Contracts team will arrange for a SAP Work Breakdown Structure to be created and the researcher will be provided with their relevant account details. A copy of the contract will be provided to the researcher and records, (legal service) on Trim.

Step 4 – Managing the project/agreement

Once the contract has been fully executed the Contracts Team will assist with:

  • Subcontracts
  • Variations/extensions
  • Novation of Agreements – managing staff departures
  • Provision of reporting milestone reminders
