Skills development

RED offers a number of skills development classes including:

Course title Description
Turbocharge your thesis This workshop will tell you how to write your thesis more effectively.
Masterclass - Completions Two half day workshops designed for those near completion. Information about how to apply can be found below.***
Presenting your research with confidence This workshop will provide a clear step-by-step structure that you can use again and again to give high quality presentations.
Skills intensives Short intensive skills training will be available in statistics, ethics and other topics.

 ***Eligibility to apply for the Masterclass - Completions

A form can be obtained from Carol Burnett - c.burnett@latrobe.edu.au and this needs to be completed by the student and their suprevisor.  The Eligiblity Criteria is:

  • Have you previously attended a Completions Master Class? Postgraduate students are not allowed to attend more than once.
  • Are you able to attend both Completions Master Class 1 and Completions Master Class 2?  Postgraduates are not eligible if they can only attend one of these sessions.
  • Have you attended either of these Thinkwell seminars: Turbocharge your thesis OR Turbocharge your Publications?  Mandatory completion of one is required.
  • Are you due to submit your thesis within six months (1 year for part-time students) of the training?  Postgraduates must be within six months (1 year for part-time students) of completion.

The University Library offers classes on tools useful to your research including:

  • EndNote
  • Word long documents
  • NVivo
  • Researching with Google Scholar

The Library also offers the LibSkills guide to library research, the LibAnswers Q&A section, and the live LibChat service.

Skills support

Support type Description
Learning circles Peer exchange groups (PEGs) for HDR scholars to discuss the process of research. More about this initiative will be available in 2012.
